Day 2 – Wednesday, June 26, 2024
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before greeting our step-on guide Bruce Michael, a longtime resident of Southampton and New York City, and a retired creative producer of the Radio City Rockettes will meet us at our hotel to begin our tour of the North Fork and Sag Harbor Long Island. On the route to Sag Harbor, we’ll make a stop at Conscience Point, a 60-acre refuge with a protected preserve where the British Settlers arrived in NY. While taking a short walk to the actual landing spot of the founding families of Southampton, its history will come alive as you view the spot where time stands still. The bus will then go down North Sea Road, the same route the Shinnecock Indians used to guide the families as they showed them the area that would become their new settlement. We will then pass through the neighborhoods of North Sea and Noyac on the route to Sag Harbor. Founded in 1707, Sag Harbor’s port was the center of foreign and coastal trade and designated by President George Washington in 1789 as an official port of entry into the United States. Sag Harbor’s illustrious history will be described as you view its immaculately restored neighborhoods and local treasures.

Once back on the bus, we’ll travel to Sag Harbor Village for lunch and shopping on your own. In Sag Harbor there is a wide array of restaurants to suit every taste. Depart Sag Harbor and journey to the East End’s North Fork.

Bidding farewell to Sag Harbor, we will cross its bridge into the Peninsula of North Haven, aboard the South Shelter Island Ferry, the only connection between Shelter Island and the South Fork. After the 10-minute crossing you will be on Shelter Island, an 8000-acre enchanted enclave. The Nature Conservancy owns one third of the Island, maintaining its vast tracts of forests, wetlands, and preserves. Shelter Island’s history will be showcased as we wind our way through this magical island nestled between the North and South Forks. As we arrive at the North Side of Shelter Island, passing by Shelter Island Heights, we will board the North Shelter Island Ferry to the North Fork, landing in Greenport. Once a bustling whaling port, a center of ship building, and the former heart of Long Island’s oyster industry, it is now a vibrant destination for visitors from all over the world. We will pass through Greenport and travel west on Route 25 and travel the North Fork Wine Trail. At one time, the farms of the North Fork were dedicated to potatoes and corn. Since the Hargrave family opened the first area winery, the East End’s wine industry has grown to astronomical proportions. Now encompassing over 40 wineries, Long Island wines are more popular than ever. As you travel through the many picturesque Villages of the North Fork, we will pass the many vineyards and tasting rooms that make this area a popular destination throughout the year. We’ll arrive at a local vineyard for a wine tasting, with this stop being the perfect finale of your journey through the Long Island’s East End.

Then we’ll return to the hotel to freshen up before dinner. Enjoy a 3-course plated dinner at Atlantis. Begin with garden salad. Choose between the Top Sirloin Steak with a demi-glace, Chicken Francese, lightly battered in a buttery lemon wine sauce or Pasta Primavera, penne pasta al dente tossed with grilled vegetables in a light garlic & extra virgin olive oil sauce. For dessert Cheesecake with berry drizzle. Meals Included – Breakfast, Dinner.

On arrival in Montauk, hear the history from its origins as the home of the Montaukett Indians to its development as a fishing village, and now the home of beautiful properties, a quaint downtown and magnificent Harbor. Arrive at the seaside Village of Montauk to have lunch on your own, which offers an array of restaurants with varied cuisines.

We’ll depart the village and travel to the very end of Long Island and visit the Montauk Lighthouse. Montauk Lighthouse, is the oldest lighthouse in New York, authorized during the Presidency of George Washington.
