| Saturday, March 17, 2012 - Les Miserables at the Boston Opera House. First we will stop at Quincy Market for lunch (on your own) then we will head to the Boston Opera House. Les Misérables translated variously from the French as The Miserable Ones, The Wretched, The Poor Ones, The Wretched Poor, or The Victims, is an 1862 French novel by author Victor Hugo and is widely considered one of the greatest novels of the nineteenth century. It follows the lives and interactions of several French characters over a seventeen-year period in the early nineteenth century, starting in 1815 and culminating in the 1832 June Rebellion.
The novel focuses on the struggles of ex-convict Jean Valjean and his experience of redemption. It examines the nature of law and grace, and expatiates upon the history of France, architecture of Paris, politics, moral philosophy, antimonarchism, justice, religion, and the types and nature of romantic and familial love. The story is historical fiction because it contains factual and historic events. Contrary to what some believe, it does not use the French Revolution as a backdrop. The French Revolution took place in the eighteenth century; Les Miserables takes place in the nineteenth. The only "revolution" depicted is the June Rebellion, a student uprising. Les Misérables is known to many through its numerous stage and screen adaptations, most notably the stage musical of the same name.

Next we will make stops at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, and the Korean War Veterans Memorial. We will end the day with dinner at the Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant before checking into the Courtyard Crystal City Hotel for the night.
**Day 2:
You will begin your day with a deluxe continental breakfast before visiting the Arlington National Cemetery – America’s shrine to valor & sacrifice. This is the final resting place for President John F. Kennedy, as well as, many others. There also lies the Tomb of the Unknowns, which speaks of a nation’s debt to the many whose ultimate sacrifice helped make a nation free.
Then off to the Capitol Visitor Center Cafeteria for lunch on your own before enjoying the Capitol Visitor Center itself. The entire facility is located underground on the east side of the Capitol so as not to detract from the appearance of the Capitol. Features include an exhibition gallery highlighting the House & Senate while in session, orientation theaters, a 550-seat cafeteria, gift shops, & restrooms all within a secure public environment that will provide visitors shelter from the unpredictable D.C. weather.
After lunch we will head on over to the United States Capitol – The Capitol is where Congress meets to write the laws of our nation, and where presidents are inaugurated. Visit the United States Library of Congress – Explore…Discover…Be Inspired!
Next we will tour the Supreme Court Building – Within the walls of this white marble monument the third branch of government exercises its mandate to protect & interpret the spirit of the Constitution.
We will then stop at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial – Its shade trees, waterfalls, statuary and quiet alcoves create the feeling of a secluded garden rather than an imposing structure. The memorial is divided into four galleries, or rooms, one for each of FDR’s terms in office.
Then we will stop at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial – The King National Memorial celebrates the powerful words of Dr. King and their ongoing ability to lead us toward a better world for everyone.

Followed by the National Gallery of Art – It houses an outstanding collection of masterpieces that trace the development of Western art from the Middle Ages to the present. The original West Building concentrates primarily on European works from the 13th century, while its contemporary counterpart, the East Building, highlights works of modern artists.
We will end the day with a wonderful dinner at King Street Blues Restaurant before heading to the hotel for a good nights rest.
**Day 4:
Another day started off right with a deluxe continental breakfast. Then we’re off to Mount Vernon – The estate of George Washington.
Next to the National Museum of the Marine Corps at Quantico – Experience what it means to be a marine! Enter a recruiting station. Step aboard the bus taking you to boot camp. Stand astride the famed “yellow footprints” and hear the roar of your first dreaded drill instructor issuing commands! Enjoy lunch on your own today in the Mess Hall (cafeteria) while at the museum.
Then back to the hotel to freshen up before dinner at the America in Union Station. Next we will depart for Ford’s Theatre – It’s Show Time! The musical 1776 tells the story of the Second Continental Congress, and the founding of America. The play opens as John Adams expresses his disgust with the Congress’s indecisiveness, and unwillingness to discuss the subject of independence. He demands that the representatives vote on the topic, and in a rash move to prevent the idea being voted down Adams demands that an uneager Thomas Jefferson compose the Declaration. In addition to these political matters, the personal lives of the characters also come into play, and give these revered historical figures humanity and realism. | Though generations have come and gone, Fenway Park remains, much like it did the day it opened on April 20, 1912. Come to a game and find out why Fenway Park is "America's Most Beloved Ballpark." -
The home of the Boston Red Sox resounds with the echoes of great baseball players like: Cy Young, Babe Ruth, Jimmy Collins, Duffy Lewis, Tris Speaker, Harry Hooper, Joe Cronin, Bobby Doerr, Johnny Pesky, Ted Williams, Jimmie Foxx, Carlton Fisk, Jim Rice and Carl Yastrzemski, to name just a few. So visit the park where the Babe pitched, The Kid hit, Yaz dazzled, and Ortiz still thrills young fans today. Soak up the rich history and hear the echoes of the past while strolling around Fenway Park. -
WHY FENWAY?
The new ballpark was constructed for the 1912 season and was named by then Red Sox owner John I. Taylor. He said, "It's in the Fenway section of Boston, isn't it? Then call it Fenway Park." It was also Taylor who changed the club's name from Americans to Red Sox prior to the 1908 season.....Then off to the New England Aquarium - Founded in 1969, the New England Aquarium is a global leader in ocean exploration and marine conservation. The Aquarium is one of the premier visitor attractions in Boston, with over 1.3 million visitors a year, and a major public education resource...
Step inside the New England Aquarium and experience more than 70 exhibits featuring aquatic animals from around the world. | May 14 - 18, 2012 - Monday through Friday - **Day 1:Hop aboard for a trip to the Dutch country! You’ll have lunch along the way on our own and arrive late afternoon at the Fulton Steamboat Inn in Lancaster, PA. For this Pennsylvania Dutch trip we will be staying, playing, and dining aboard a steamboat, a uniquely charming experience. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful farmland, you’re minutes from the area’s most popular attractions and adjacent to Rockvale Outlets. Whether shopping, sightseeing or kicking back, the Fulton Steamboat Inn is where your adventures begin. This hotel has 97 Victorian and Nautically themed guest rooms, all rooms feature refrigerators, microwave, coffeemakers, ironing board and hair dryer, 32” flat-panel TV’s with cable, heated indoor pool, whirlpool, fitness center and a on-site gift shop with Amish and country handmade gifts. Tonight you will be having the famous Traditional Family style Dinner at Good n’ Plenty Restaurant.
**Day 2:
We will begin with breakfast at the hotel and head off to Gettysburg. We will stop at the visitor’s Center to see the film “A New Birth of Freedom” and Cyclorama and then head to the refreshment Saloon to have lunch on your own. After lunch you will have a guided tour of Gettysburg Battlefield and Eisenhower Farm. This area is best known for just three days - July 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 1863 - the Battle of Gettysburg. Though the conflict ended well over a century ago, each year nearly 2 million people make the pilgrimage to this venerable site, the largest battlefield shrine in America with over 1,000 monuments and cannon and over 40 miles of scenic avenues. They come to see for themselves the spot where thousands fought and died for their "cause", the spot where President Lincoln spoke and still speaks to us today. Dinner tonight is at the Fairfield Inn Restaurant, and after dinner we will depart for the hotel.
**Day 3:
Again, we will start the day off with breakfast at the hotel and then we’ll take a Back Country Narrated Tour with lots of stops…. Amish Farm and Farmland…Kitchen Kettle Village with lunch on your own… Amish Quilt & Craft Shop… From the horse’s mouth - a question and answer session with a member of an Amish family…Country surprise… Dinner in Amish House… and return to the hotel.
**Day 4:
Once again, breakfast at the hotel this morning, and then we are off to “The Sweetest Place on Earth”. The first stop will be a guided tour of the Dearden House. We will drive around the Milton Hershey School and stop at Founder’s Hall for a guided tour. Raised in rural central Pennsylvania, hampered by the lack of a formal education and nearly bankrupt by the time he was 30, Milton S. Hershey went on to become not only one of America’s wealthiest individuals, but also a successful entrepreneur whose products are known the world over, a visionary builder of the town which bears his name and a philanthropist whose open-hearted generosity continues to touch the lives of thousands. Lunch will be on our own at Hershey World with an animated tour ride to learn about the process of making chocolate that starts in the tropical rain forest. We’ll follow the cocoa beans’ journey across the ocean to America then see, feel and hear the processes that deliciously transform the beans to milk chocolate. While at Chocolate World, we’ll be able to do a tasting and some shopping and then head for the hotel. Dinner tonight will be at Miller’s Smorgasbord followed by the production of Jonah at the Sight & Sound Millennium Theater.
**Day 5:
This is our final breakfast at the Fulton Steamboat Inn before we depart for the Bird in Hand Farmer’s Market. We’ll all board the motor coach and head back home with great memories. We will stop for breaks and lunch on the way home.

| May 19, 2012 - Saturday - Woodbury Common Premium Outlets, a sprawling mall of over 220 stores, is about an hour’s journey north from Manhattan to Central Valley. As a “premium” outlet, Woodbury’s huge roster includes designer retailers rarely seen at discount malls. Stores like Dior, Tory Burch, Chanel, Cavalli, and Jimmy Choo reflect the up-market shoppers traveling in from the boroughs (and explain the tourists, who come by the busload). Off-the-rack department stores like Neiman Marcus Last Call and Sak’s Off Fifth offer twenty-five to sixty-five percent off their Fifth Avenue prices. Exclusive home stores make buying an impressive wedding or shower gift cheap(er) and easy—you can’t go wrong with top-of-the-line linens from Frette, or coveted cookware by Le Creuset. While it might be frightening to expose children to such an intense retail environment, Woodbury could be the exception: There are dozens of children’s clothing and toy stores in addition to a small playground near the food court. Check out the website before you make the trek; by completing a free registration online with the “VIP Lounge” you can print out coupons and vouchers good for your visit. Also, shoppers over 50 years old get ten percent off on Tuesdays at participating stores. — Katy Ansite.
Over 220 designer stores populate this hamlet of shopping in upstate New York. Woodbury Common is a shopaholic's dream - designer clothing at bargain prices!!!
You'll find plenty of great deals here and not just on clothing, there's stores for home furnishing, jewelry, luggage, leather, gifts & specialty items as well. Next we will travel to Perkins Cove to board the Finestkind for a Lobstering Trip; this trip combines the scenic beauty of Ogunquit's shoreline with a firsthand lobstering experience. Your tour guide will provide a detailed explanation of the lobster fishery and the many scenic points of interest along the way, providing you with many insights into life along our coast. You will be thrilled to see the abundant sea life that comes up in the traps and everyone will come away with a deeper understanding of lobsters and their habitat. Following by our wonderful time at sea we will have a Wine & Cheese Welcome upon arrival at The Meadowmere Resort. You'll board a "Duck", an authentic, renovated World War II amphibious landing vehicle and tour Boston like it's never been toured before. You'll be greeted by one of the legendary tour conDUCKtors, who'll be narrating your tour. You'll cruise by all the places that make Boston the birthplace of freedom and a city of firsts, from the golden domed State House to the Boston Common, the Old North Church to fashionable Newbury Street, and much more. And just when you think you've seen it all, there's more. It's time for "Splashdown" as your conDUCKtor splashes your duck right into the Charles River for a breathtaking water side view of Boston, the kind of view you just won't get anywhere else. ---Next we will head to the Museum of Science, a hub of research and invention that is New England's most visited cultural institution. The Museum has always moved visitors to think like scientists through hands-on, minds-on experiences. Today, with 1.5 million visitors a year, we are redefining the way people think about, learn about, and interact with science and technology.-
The Museum of Science has an extraordinary story to tell: new interactive exhibits; leadership in technological literacy; attention to pioneering discoveries in biomedical and life sciences. We invite you to visit. Discover how this dynamic national institution has inspired people and changed lives since 1830. It might even change yours.-
In 2004, the Museum launched the National Center for Technological Literacy® (NCTL®). Its mission is to integrate engineering as a new discipline in schools nationwide and to inspire the next generation of engineers and innovators. NCTL offers educational products and programs for pre-K - 12 students and teachers, creates curricula, supports an online resource center, and engages in partnership and outreach with other institutions. Through the NCTL, the Museum supports national curricular reform and teacher development with the state-of-the-art Educator Resource Center in the Lyman Library, renovated in 2008.-
In the Mugar Omni Theater, the world's largest film format is projected onto a five-story-tall IMAX® Dome screen. It wraps audiences in larger-than-life images of flora, fauna, and faraway places. | July 8, 2012 - Sunday - You will begin the day with a visit to the Naumkeag House. You will experience the Gilded-Age style and splendor at this marvelous estate, renowned for its elegant gardens and rare Berkshire “Cottage.” With its gracious house, magnificent gardens, and panoramic views, Naumkeag is a quintessential country estate of the Gilded Age. This 26 room Norman style mansion was the home of Joseph Hodges Choate, who was the ambassador to the Court of St. James under President McKinley. The house is set on Prospect Hill overlooking the Berkshire hills and valleys. From the back veranda you can view the “neighborhood” of the Choates; several of the other mansions from the Cottages Era. This is one of the best places to enjoy the green rolling hills in the spring and summer. The extensive gardens were designed by Miss Choate with the help of Fletcher Steele, noted landscape architect. Then you will travel to the Apple Tree Inn for lunch before heading to Tanglewood to see the Boston Pops.
Broadway superstar Bernadette Peters has dazzled audiences with performances on stage and screen. With Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops, she returns to Tanglewood with her singular style, presenting selections such as Let Me Entertain You, Fever, and Some Enchanted Evening.
Keith Lockhart became the twentieth conductor of the Boston Pops in 1995. Keith Lockhart has worked with a wide array of artists from virtually every corner of the entertainment world. Keith Lockhart has brought many of the great musicians and entertainers of our day to the Pops stage. | August 4 - 13, 2012 (Saturday - Monday) - **Day 1:Today we will travel all the way to the Hilton Saint John in Saint John, New Brunswick. The Hilton Saint John is the first choice for New Brunswick hotels. Our full service, 4½ star, hotel is located right on the Saint John harbor with 197 rooms and connected to New Brunswick's largest Trade and Convention Center. We are connected via indoor pedway to Market Square retail and business complex, Harbor Station, Canada Games Aquatic Center, New Brunswick Museum, and Brunswick Square financial and shopping center.
As a guest at our Saint John New Brunswick hotel, you will enjoy the quick accessibility to Harbor Passage, an interconnected system of walking and biking trails, lookouts, and heritage sites as well as the use and convenience of the Inside Connection – a four season indoor network that spans several blocks, connecting you to all of the Saint John New Brunswick Attractions. Dinner will be included this evening.
**Day 2:
Begin the day with breakfast at the hotel before we depart on a ferry ride from St John to Digby, Nova Scotia and check into the Delta Halifax. The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Halifax on the Link walkway system. Delta Halifax is connected through an indoor walkway to their sister property, Delta Barrington, with easy access to Casino Nova Scotia and the World Trade and Convention Center. Dinner tonight will be on your own and you will have a chance to explore the city at your leisure.
**Day 3:
Begin the day with breakfast at the hotel before we tour the Citadel National Historic Park. Worth the uphill climb, the Citadel’s stone fortress offers amazing views of the city and the harbor to its visitors. The view from the Citadel will show you the amazing architecture of downtown between the hilltop and harbor; the harbor’s mouth of wooded islands; and the naval dockyard under the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge, which connects Halifax and Dartmouth. Just 9 blocks from the waterfront, the Citadel has been restored to look much as the fort did in 1856.
You’ll find thick granite walls topped by grassy embankments; in the large cobblestone courtyard you'll find costumed people in kilts and bearskin hats playing bagpipes and firing the noon cannon – a grand tradition since 1749. Find out what life was like at the fort, as tours will show you the barracks and other chambers. While meandering through the halls, stop a soldier, bagpiper, or washerwoman and ask them any questions you may have.
Then we will head over to the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic located in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic commemorates the fishing heritage of the Atlantic coast of Canada and has recently been named as one of the top 1000 best places to see in the US and Canada before you die. Housed in brightly painted red buildings, with floating vessels at wharf side, the Museum offers a host of attractions, a maritime gift shop and restaurant.
Then we will make a stop at the Knaut-Rhuland House Museum. The Knaut-Rhuland House is a turn of the nineteenth century two and-a-half story wooden structure located on Pelham Street, between Prince and King Streets in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. The house is set immediately on the sidewalk, and is situated close to its neighbors.
Enjoy lunch on your own in Lunenburg before we depart for Peggy’s Cove Coastal Region which encompassing the shores of the scenic St. Margaret’s Bay. We will make a stop at the Swissair Flight 111 Memorial; on September 2, 1998 a Swissair McDonnell Douglas MD-11 aircraft crashed into the Atlantic Ocean southwest of Halifax International Airport at the entrance to St. Margaret’s Bay. The crash site was 8 kilometers (5.0 mi) from shore. All 229 people on board died. It was the highest-ever death toll of any aviation accident involving a McDonnell Douglas MD-11. Dinner tonight will be at the Sou'Wester Restaurant.
**Day 4:
You will have breakfast at the hotel followed by a tour of Halifax. Then we will depart for the little village of Baddeck, situated on the shores of the beautiful Bras d'Or Lake in the heart of Cape Breton lsland, one of the world's scenic gems. We will make a stop at the Museum of Industry; Atlantic Canada’s largest museum to discover the people, places and machines of Nova Scotia’s industrial past. Push, pull, lift, drop and laugh as you enjoy acres of exhibits and interactive displays that highlight how technology – and people – worked throughout this province’s history. While at the museum we will enjoy a box lunch before depart for Gisele’s.
Then we will check into the Auberge Gisele's Inn where European charm and sophistication meets warm Cape Breton hospitality. The world famous Cabot Trail, the World's Most Scenic Destination Areas, begins and ends right here. Dinner tonight will be at the hotel.
**Day 5:
Today we will start with breakfast at the hotel then we will have a tour of the Cabot Trail. Cape Breton Highlands National Park protects a significant and representative part of Canada’s magnificent highlands and coastal wilderness. It was set-aside in 1936 as the first national park in Atlantic Canada and features dramatic mountains, rugged ocean coastline, waterfalls, sandy beaches, majestic forests and tranquil valleys. The park contains some of the last remaining protected wilderness in Nova Scotia and is home to moose, bald eagles, foxes, a variety of birds and many other forms of wildlife. A box lunch is included today, as well as, a stop for ice cream.
Then it is off to Flora’s, located in Cheticamp, a small fishing community nestled on the northwest coast of Cape Breton. It is well known for its French Acadian culture and deep-rooted traditions, one of which is rug hooking. At first, woolen remnants and rags were cut into strips and made into hooked mats for homes, more for daily practical use than for its decorative value. Flora Boudreau started Flora's as a general store in the early 1950s and she would sell her own hooked rugs to tourists. By the early 1960s, she started selling not only her own rugs but her neighbors’ as well. As demand for hooked rugs continued, she completely renovated her general store into a craft shop. Today, her legacy is passed on to her daughter Marie LeFort. Since 1980, the shop has expanded to what you see today!
Next we will travel to Alexander Graham Bell Estate. Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site commemorates the genius and compassion of renowned inventor Alexander Graham Bell. Exhibits show how he and his associates achieved Canada’s first powered flight with their airplane Silver Dart, produced the world’s fastest boat, advanced recording technology, designed giant kites and, of course, invented the telephone. Original artifacts, films, and family photographs highlight his scientific and humanitarian work. Visitors can also enjoy hands-on activities. Situated on 10 hectares of land with a superb view of the Bras d’Or Lake in Baddeck on Cape Breton Island, the Site overlooks Bell’s summer home, Beinn Bhreagh, still privately owned by his descendants. Then we will head back to the hotel for dinner that night.
**Day 6:
We will begin with breakfast at the hotel. Then we will depart for Prince Edward Island, we will be taking the ferry from Pictou. The province is also called 'PEI' or simply 'the Island'. When we arrive on PEI we will make a stop to have lunch on your own. Then we will continue on our way to Charlottetown, the Capital City of Prince Edward Island, the perfect blend of urban excitement, country living and some of the cleanest air in Canada. We will be greeted with a tour before checking into the Rodd Royalty, Charlottetown PEI, a newly renovated full-service hotel with 119 spacious guestrooms each tastefully decorated with a modern, fresh style. Dinner will be included tonight.
**Day 7:
We will start with breakfast at the hotel before enjoying the town of PEI. The Anne of Green Gables Museum at Silver Bush – Park Corner; has a treasure around every corner. On this 110-acre property you will find a museum with beautiful flower gardens on the property, a gift shop with the finest licensed Anne of Green Gables products available, a view of the Lake of Shining Waters, Matthews Carriage Rides, a playground for the children and some of the most beautiful scenery on Prince Edward Island.
Then a visit to The Campbell home, that L.M. Montgomery called her wonder castle, which was built in 1872 by her Uncle John and Aunt Annie Campbell. The first Campbell family settled here in 1776 and it is still in the Campbell family after over two hundred and thirty years. Come to know the olden gladness, beauty and welcome that filled L.M. Montgomery’s heart when she visited the Campbell’s.
See your own reflection in the enchanted bookcase, one of the more significant items described in the Anne of Green Gables series. Also on display is the author's crazy patchwork quilt made up in a multitude of shapes, sizes, and colors as well as her own hand colored and developed photographs. L.M. Montgomery chose to be married in front of the fireplace in the parlor of the Campbell homestead on July 5, 1911. The same organ and furnishings that were used at the time of L.M. Montgomery's wedding are still used today when young couples from around the world come to the Campbell home to be married.
Then we will make a stop at Green Gables House, located in Cavendish in the Prince Edward Island National Park, is a popular tourist destination. Built in the mid 1800’s, the house was once the home of cousins of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s grandfather. Their farm inspired the setting for her fictional novel, Anne of Green Gables. The house grounds and farm, out buildings portray the Victorian setting described in the novel.
Next a visit to Cavendish National Park; P.E.I.'s only national park that extends 40 km along the island's north shore from Cavendish to Dalvay, and also includes 6 km along the western tip of the Greenwich Peninsula. Found within Prince Edward Island National Park of Canada are sand dunes, barrier islands and sand pits, beaches, sandstone cliffs, wetlands and forests.
Followed by a visit to Prince Edward Island Preserve Company where owner Bruce MacNaughton greets visitors from all over the world to the tastefully renovated 1913 butter factory. It is now home to the well-known Prince Edward Island Preserve Company which houses an old-fashioned country gift store, a unique café and the on-site preserve preparation area. Prince Edward Island Preserve Company is recognized as Canada’s finest maker of preserves. The preserves, made primarily from quality Island fruit, have a low sugar and high fruit content. The preserves are made by hand in small batches so as to maintain its consistent high quality. We will then depart and have dinner at a local restaurant before going back to the hotel.
**Day 8:
We will begin with breakfast at the hotel before departing to Gateway Village, a 30-acre retail and tourism development with a circa 1860 architectural theme. Located at the Prince Edward Island landfall of the Confederation Bridge, Gateway Village is a must stop destination and welcome center for many of the 1.2 million annual visitors to Prince Edward Island. The Confederation Bridge joins the eastern Canadian provinces of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick, making travel throughout the Maritimes easy and convenient. The curved 8 mile long bridge is the longest in the world crossing ice-covered water, and a decade after its construction; it endures as one of Canada’s top engineering achievements of the 20th century.
Then we will discover Atlantic Canada’s best-kept secret with an interactive lobster-themed cruise. An unforgettable culinary experience awaits us as we cruise the warm waters of Shediac Bay. We’ll listen as our tour guide tickles our taste buds and shows us how to crack and eat a delicious, freshly cooked lobster. Then, sit back, relax and enjoy a fisherman’s feast, washed down with a cold beverage, as we take in the scenery and experience the hospitality the Acadians are so famous for. After lunch, we’ll can catch the balmy breezes on their roomy upper deck and marvel at the scenic beauty of the East Coast as we listen to traditional Acadian music.
Next we will depart to The Hopewell Rocks, one of New Brunswick’s Top Attractions. The Hopewell Rocks is located along the coast of the Bay of Fundy, which is home to the world’s highest tides. This is where the Fundy Tides have gouged four-story sculptures from the cliffs. At low tide, they look like flowerpots. At high tide, they disappear, leaving little tree-topped islands in their place. This is the only place where Bay of Fundy tides are interpreted. Exhibits help visitors better understand the unique Fundy ecosystem. We will enjoy a drive through Fundy National Park which encompasses some of the last remaining wilderness in southern New Brunswick. Here, the conifer dominated Caledonia Highlands roll down to meet the fog-generating Bay of Fundy. We will then check in once again at the Hilton Saint John in Saint John, New Brunswick where you can enjoy dinner on your own that evening.
**Day 9:

| Location: |
New Hampshire |
Price: |
$83.00 |
| Date(s): |
10/11/2012 |
Time: |
|
| October 11, 2012 - Thursday --The Castle in the Clouds, formerly known as “Lucknow”, is a 16-room mountaintop mansion built in 1913/1914 by shoe industrialist Thomas Plant. The Castle's spectacular mountaintop estate offers a 270-degree view of mountains and lakes. You won't believe the truly breathtaking views! Designed in the Arts and Crafts style to blend naturally into its setting on 5,500 wilderness acres, the home is built of heavy oak timbering with a veneer of octagonal stones. The interior of the mansion contains work of the finest craftsmen of the era combined with the most advanced, state-of-the-art technology of the time. The home has remarkable integrity, retaining its original configuration, fittings, and furnishings as well as its uncompromised setting. The home also displays the lifestyle of the 1920s with exhibits of clothing, reading material, kitchen utensils, and music of that period. The visitor approaches “Lucknow” aboard a trolley which winds up the mountainside to the home’s spectacular setting. The tour begins with a ten minute orientation, after which the visit is self-guided, assisted by informational placards and docents happy to answer questions.
--Next we will head to the Winnipesaukee Railroad. "Where Does The Train Ride Go? The train runs from Meredith NH along Meredith Bay and arrives at Weirs Beach home of the MV MT Washington. After a brief stop to pick up a lot of passengers, we continue to Lakeport along "Paugus Bay". We arrive at the turning point of the ride in one hour (1/2 hour from Weirs) at Lakeport. There is no station here so passengers relax on board, watch the boats and enjoy the breeze. Lakeport is the only water outlet from the lake. From here water flows from here over a small dam to Winnisquam then to Silver Lake through Tilton to form the Merrimack River. Our engine uncouples from the coaches and runs up the side track to get to the other end. After we complete the coupling we head carefully north to Meredith stopping to handle passengers at Weirs Beach, Some Groups disembark here for a connection with the MV MT Washington. The train then continues on to Meredith. While aboard you will enjoy a full hot Turkey Dinner served to your group on the train. This is a Famous Harts Catered Home Made Style Dinner as Grandma served at Thanksgiving. Meal Includes Turkey, Potato, Gravy, Stuffing, Cranberry Sauce, Roll, Vegetable, Beverage and Dessert too!
--On the way home with will be stopping at the Christmas Tree Shop to get those last minute holiday gifts just before getting home.

| Christmas at the Newport Mansions |
|
| Location: |
Newport, RI |
Price: |
$52.00 |
| Date(s): |
12/02/2012 |
Time: |
|
| December 2, 2012 - Sunday - The glitter of gold and the sparkle of silver will dazzle you as you tour these magnificent mansions decked out in Yuletide finery. Thousands of poinsettia plants, spectacular evergreens, trees, wreaths and fresh flowers and 19th century style ornaments turn the houses and their grounds into a Christmas wonderland. Dining tables set with period silver and china and mannequins dressed in authentic costumes complete the elegant setting.
Our first stop will be at Marble House. Marble House was built between 1888 and 1892 for Mr. and Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt. It was a summer house, or "cottage", as Newporters called them in remembrance of the modest houses of the early 19th century. But Marble House was much more; it was a social and architectural landmark that set the pace for Newport's subsequent transformation from a quiet summer colony of wooden houses to the legendary resort of opulent stone palaces.
Then you will be dropped off on the waterfront to enjoy lunch on your own before boarding the motor coach to our next mansion.
For our second stop you will be visiting the Breakers House. The Breakers is the grandest of Newport's summer "cottages" and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family's social and financial preeminence in turn of the century America. Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt (1794-1877) established the family fortune in steamships and later in the New York Central Railroad, which was a pivotal development in the industrial growth of the nation during the late 19th century.
On your way home you will enjoy Newport’s Historic Ten Mile Drive. Today, Newport's Ten Mile Drive combines that history of a wealthy summer community with a fabulous Newport recreational treasure of public parks and miles of public access shoreline to rank as one of the most popular "drives" in the country.
